today, i learned that the state of california has its own state-sponsored travel ban, states to which california state employees cannot travel to on official business because these states practice discriminatory conduct against LGBTQA people. former-AG kamala harris instituted the first ban against kansas, mississippi, north carolina, and tennessee. current AG xavier becerra recently added alabama, kentucky, south dakota, and texas to that list.
it's not a perfect idea, but i support it. if anything, it's a reminder that homophobia and discrimination are still thriving and alive today, which is something the inverted pink triangle you see on the hill in the distance symbolizes as well. the inverted pink triangle was used by nazis to identify homosexuals, marking them for persecution and/or death, and the symbol has since been reclaimed to serve as an ongoing reminder that homophobia still exists, that LGBTQA people face discrimination and violence and possible death around the world every single day, not only in other countries but in our own. in the midst of all the celebrations this #pridemonth, it is vital to remember that.
