Day 111 | Veria Camp

Welcome to baby Isa!
Born 3 days ago. He's still in hospital but as soon as he's out Bridge2 will provide him with a baby box - which contains clothes, a baby carrier, thermometer, pampers, wet wipes, and more, it also doubles a bed! - a heater will also be given both courtesy of @carrythefuture a Lovebox (full of more supplies), additional clothing, food and other baby items!
We will then continue with nutritional care for the mother, extra eggs, tuna, dates & olive oil.

Thank you to all the teams and individuals who help to support us 🙏

Find out carrythefuture's Instagram #CTFtripjournal from Jill of #CTFDistributionTeam23 as she traveled to Serbia last week. "We waited for a customs form we would need to pass into Serbia with the 500 baby carriers we have been hauling around. Our contact in Serbia sent it and we were on the road – a snowy road.
We would have to pass from Macedonia into Serbia, another border crossing. I think the border and immigration people take pity on us -- we truly are clueless, so much so that people have been feeling sorry for us and helping us. We just get passed from one office to the next. Today was the same, but it looks like we have success! We were told MANY times, 'go straight to Belgrade to customs office here.' And the agent would point to our paperwork that is now full of very important-looking stamps.

Maps said our drive from Skopje to Belgrade was 3.5 hours. Sort of close -- it took us only seven. Counting our hour at the border.
We headed straight to the customs office like we were told – arrived at 5 p.m. and were told to return at 9 a.m. tomorrow.

SOOOOOOO close! So we checked into our hotel and went to meet with our Serbian partner Eden, who runs this amazing program called Refugees Foundation Serbia. He has rented a little two-story building (maybe 100 square feet total) and he and his volunteers offer English classes, math classes and a safe place for kids to come and hang out. He will have any where from 25 to 50 kids show up every day. The kids come with a mom who will bring a bunch over, or the older kids will take some smaller kids over. They ride the bus, which I am sure is a nice break from the monotony of camp life. There are 1,000 people in the camp here in Belgrade; 500 are under 18. The government has sent 20 students to school, and that was not until December. This center is run 100 percent on donations.

Once again our faith in mankind was rewarded by meeting someone who does such amazing work.

The camps in Serbia have been in the news these past few weeks; the conditions are basic at best. We will see firsthand tomorrow when we deliver the much-needed baby carriers." #withRefugees #candosomething #Serbia #CarrytheFuture #refugeeswelcome 1434518548499404430_2228405197

Find out refuaid's Instagram However bad our days get, we are fortunate to be able to go home, shut our doors on the world and recuperate. But the millions of refugees around the world who have already faced enough grief to fill several lifetimes, are not so lucky.
Refugees are amongst the world’s most vulnerable people - today, hundreds of thousands of people are trapped in squalid camps where they are subjected to daily humiliation. The idea of personal space is nonexistent, with people forced to live on top of each other in tents, without any idea of when they will be free to live a normal life. The most basic of health services are limited and hard to come by and despite their 'refugee' status, no one feels safe. As you read this, many refugees are trying to stay warm in tents and barracks in temperatures that are below zero, surrounded by snow and lack of proper heating.
No matter what country they’ve fled, men, women and children seeking asylum need immediate access to warm, dry shelter that protects them from danger.
The RefuAid team have spent extensive time working with refugee communities living in camps, and we know that housing is consistently one of the most requested opportunities. We know that life for refugees living in these conditions will have a disastrous impact on the future of these generations, and we know that it will foster dependency and weaken the ability of people to manage their own lives, creating a barrier for possible solutions.
Our Housing Project addresses this severe need by providing housing and with it a resemblance of normality and safety to refugees in Greece. This project design houses people for less than 4EUR a day, an immense achievement against the 10EUR per person per night charged at certain refugee camps. Our scheme rescues individuals from the appalling conditions described above to a place to call home that is warm, private and has a roof. We are also addressing the need for housing for the Greek homeless population by providing 20% of available housing to destitute members of the local community.
Help us help them by donating here www.RefuAid.org/donate #hope #withrefugees 1434320652395067031_2269808275
